Lagoon Bloom – Tropical Colour in Motion

Fresh, bright and full of movement, Lagoon Bloom is the first singlet to join the Dye My World collection.

Inspired by tropical waters and lush coastal colour, this one-of-a-kind piece brings together vibrant turquoise, blue and green tones, creating a design that seems to bloom outward across the fabric.

One of the most distinctive features of Lagoon Bloom is the small burst of colour toward the lower part of the singlet, surrounded by completely different flowing patterns across the rest of the garment.

Creating Lagoon Bloom

To create Lagoon Bloom, I started by making a small, tight offset spiral rather than spiralling the entire singlet.

That small spiral was then positioned on top of the centre of a colander, while the remaining fabric of the singlet was allowed to drape naturally down over the sides.

This gave the garment two very different ways for the dye to move — a concentrated spiral at the centre point and much freer movement through the fabric hanging around it.

Ice and dye were then allowed to work through the folded and draped fabric, with gravity helping carry the colours through the sections hanging over the colander.

The result was something I couldn't completely predict beforehand. The tight spiral produced the distinctive bloom-like feature, while the surrounding fabric developed flowing streaks and transitions of turquoise, blue and green.

That contrast between the structured spiral and the more freely flowing surrounding pattern is what gives Lagoon Bloom its character.

It is also a good example of what I enjoy about hand dyeing — you can control the fold, the colour choices and the setup, but the movement of the dye still creates its own surprises.

Like every Dye My World garment, Lagoon Bloom was individually folded, hand dyed, rinsed, washed and finished here in Australia.

There are no mass-produced duplicates. The singlet shown in the product photographs is the exact garment its new owner will receive.
