Nebula Rift – A Journey Into Deep Space
Every Dye My World design begins with an idea. Sometimes it's inspired by a landscape, sometimes by a memory, and sometimes by the incredible colours found in nature. Nebula Rift was inspired by something much further away—the mysterious beauty of deep space.
Rather than creating another traditional rainbow spiral, I wanted to explore a darker palette that captured the feeling of drifting through a distant nebula. The result is a one-of-a-kind spiral filled with rich violets, deep blues, soft turquoise and dramatic black, creating a design that changes every time you look at it.
Inspired by the Night Sky
The inspiration behind Nebula Rift came from images of nebulae—vast clouds of gas and dust illuminated by distant stars.
Instead of using bright colours across every section of the spiral, I chose a more restrained palette that allowed the blues and violets to flow naturally through the design. The black provides structure, while subtle turquoise highlights create the impression of light emerging from the darkness.
The finished result feels less like a traditional tie-dye shirt and more like a piece of wearable abstract art.
A New Spiral Technique
Nebula Rift also marks another step in the evolution of my spiral designs.
Rather than colouring each spiral wedge with a single colour from the centre to the outside, the spiral was carefully divided into smaller colour segments. This allows related shades to blend together within each section, creating far greater depth and movement once the ice begins to melt.
The process takes patience, but the natural blending produced by melting ice creates effects that simply can't be replicated by hand.
The Ice Dye Process
Like every Dye My World garment, Nebula Rift was individually folded by hand before professional fibre reactive dyes were carefully applied.
Once covered with ice, the melting process slowly carried each colour through the tightly folded cotton, allowing the different shades to mix naturally over many hours.
After batching, the shirt was thoroughly rinsed, washed and dried before revealing its final appearance.
No two ice-dyed garments will ever develop in exactly the same way, making every finished piece completely unique.

Every Dye My World garment is individually hand-dyed in Sydney, Australia.
There are no production runs, no factory printing and no identical copies.
Once Nebula Rift finds its new owner, another shirt may be inspired by the same idea—but it will never be exactly the same.
That's what makes every Dye My World piece truly one of a kind.
