Solar Flare – A Burst of Colour and Energy

Some designs are made to stand out, and Solar Flare is definitely one of them.

Inspired by the intense colour and energy of a solar flare, this one-of-a-kind hand-dyed tee combines brilliant yellow, orange, red and pink tones that appear to burst outward across the fabric.

The design creates a strong sense of movement, with the brighter yellow and orange flowing outward into deeper red and pink tones. The radiating pattern gives the shirt the appearance of heat and colour exploding from a single point.

Creating Solar Flare

Solar Flare was created using a fan-style accordion fold, with the fabric folded outward from one area of the shirt to produce the radiating lines seen in the finished design.

The folded shirt was then hand dyed using sections of yellow, orange, red and shocking pink, before being covered with ice and allowed to develop naturally as the ice melted through the folds.

That combination of folding, ice and flowing dye is what created the irregular streaks, colour changes and fiery movement throughout the finished piece.

Because the dye moves naturally through the fabric during the process, the final result can never be completely predicted. That unpredictability is part of what makes hand dyeing so interesting — and why every finished garment develops its own character.

Like every garment at Dye My World, Solar Flare was individually folded, dyed, rinsed, washed and finished by hand here in Australia.

There are no mass-produced duplicates. The shirt shown in the product photographs is the exact shirt its new owner will receive.
