Ember Vortex

Ember Vortex is a one-of-a-kind men’s XL hand-dyed ice dye T-shirt, individually created in Sydney, Australia using professional fibre-reactive dyes.

The design combines smoky charcoal and blue-violet tones with warm cinnamon, rust and flashes of pink and magenta, creating a dramatic central vortex that stretches into long flowing colour trails through the lower half of the garment.

Inspired by Embers and Smoke

Ember Vortex takes inspiration from the contrast between glowing embers and dark drifting smoke.

To create the design, the centre of the shirt was formed into a spiral over the crown of a colander, while the remaining fabric was allowed to drape naturally down around the sides.

As the ice melted, gravity carried the dye through the hanging folds. This created a concentrated circular burst around the upper centre of the shirt before stretching into long smoky streams of blue-grey, violet and charcoal toward the hem.

Warm cinnamon and rust tones break through the darker areas, while flashes of pink and magenta add brightness and contrast throughout the design.

Because the ice, gravity and individual dye pigments move differently through the fabric every time, this exact pattern cannot be reproduced.

The colander technique used for Ember Vortex gives the shirt two distinct forms of movement — a concentrated spiral around the centre followed by elongated colour trails created as the fabric draped below.

Once Ember Vortex is sold, this exact design cannot be replaced.
